The Whitecaps were faced with a difficult task of having to win two games on Monday night in order to overtake the AVC and win the 2nd division title and were able to do so with two come-from-behind wins and take the 2nd division championship.
Logan Aylward scored the winner with 12 minutes left in the winner-take-all final game on Monday night to give the Whitecaps a 5-3 win.
Brendan Boudreau (1-2), Mark Dunlop, Shaun Younker, and Tyler Brown also scored for the Whitecaps in the deciding game, with Jared Doucette (2), David MacEwen (2), Brodie MacArthur (2), and Josh McDonald picking up helpers.
Jeremy Balderson (1-1), Morgan Watts, and Brandon Mitchell replied for the AVC, with Jeremy Koughan (2) and Sawyer Gauthier picking up assists.
Nick MacDonald took the win for the Whitecaps over Brodie Garnhum of the AVC.
The shots were 23-17 in favour of the Whitecaps. The score was 2-2 after the first period.
Because the AVC were undefeated in the playoffs prior to Monday night in the double-elimination format, they had the chance to clinch the title in the earlier game but were doubled up by the Whitecaps 6-3.
Brendan Boudreau (2-1), Lincoln Key (2), Brodie MacArthur, and Patrick Noonan scored for the Whitecaps in the early game, with Jared Doucette (2), David MacEwen, Nick MacDonald, Tyler Brown, Brody Maddix, and Josh McDonald picking up helpers.
Pat MacIntyre (1-1), Branden Kelly, and Brandon Mitchell replied for AVC with helpers from Morgan Watts, Sawyer Gauthier, and Jeremy Balderson.
Nick MacDonald stopped 18 of 21 shots for the win for the Whitecaps, while Brodie Garnhum stopped 16 of 21 shots and took the loss for the AVC.
The AVC lead 3-1 after the first period.
