About the League

About the League

The Queens County Rec League (formerly the Terrible Hockey League) was founded in 2006 on the principle of a Gentlemen’s Recreation Hockey League for those who have never played the game and those who desire to return to the game they love. League members agree to participate in a sportsmanlike manner and display good will towards their opposition and fellow league members. The league is open to all players looking for a fun and safe environment to play a competitive brand of recreational/organized ice hockey, regardless of ability.

Since it's inception in 2006, we are the fastest growing rec hockey league on PEI and we have done it independently from corporate sponsorship.

It merged with the Molson Rec League in 2016-17, the Confed league in 2018-19, and an old-timers league in 2019-20, and has now expanded into a 27-team league with ice times playing out of five island rinks (Cody Banks, Simmons, Bell Aliant Centre (UPEI), Eastlink Centre and Rustico).  The league is also split into divisions to ensure that teams were matched up with teams of similar skill.

This league is still grounded in its roots, by encouraging players of all skill levels to participate, while at the same time having experienced hockey players who have played elite level hockey in various leagues.

The league has established itself as a very reputable hockey league in Charlottetown.
